The point really was to show if there was a bigger market that more viruses and attempts would come. I do think though it is safer for the most part, but I'm sure it can be cracked like any other platform. There were a few issues people were reporting see below:

http://www.sophos.com/pressoffice/news/articles/2006/02/macosxleap.html

Another interesting read is

http://www.eweek.com/article2/0%2C1759%2C1777202%2C00.asp

Also Jamie, thanks for the heads up about repeating the word MAC, I got so caught up typing fast and typing PC that I did the same for Mac, but you are correct.

Parboman, good point, I didn't bring up the possiblities to make things pretty simple. I do agree than a new and better system can emerge in the future, but I wanted to focus on the "battle" between these two systems as the focus of the article.

Thanks

Ther we go again...: "There are some viruses out there for OS X, but they are far less prevalent only because the OS itself is far less prevalent than Windows XP."

OK, name me one virus for OS X.
Go on. One is enough. One wild free virus. No 'proof of concept'. One virus that actually got onto an OS X machine and spread itself to other machines, or caused harm to the system without conscious action of the user.

I'm not sayiong OS X is safer and secure than Windows. It's inherently a bit more secure, but not at all 'safe'. But I can't take it that everyone goes about saying there are virusses for OSX out there. There aren't, so don't say there are.

Altough the article raises some valid points it does not discuss some fundamental issues.
First of all the terms MAC and PC is fairly outdated, and does not make much sense in a world where the three main projects being used is windows, linux and macosx.

The article does not take into account the fact that the future might be a product which is neither a mac or a pc. Computing is still an evolving field and many suprising things can still happen.

I agree that Mac Os X is very unlikely to ever make some headway in the buisness field but I though belive that Apple's market share will dramaticaly increase to about 10% (more than double of today) as long as they can keep their products being seen as cool and trendy (that fact that they also run windows when needed is a big factor in this potential growth).

Otherwise an interesting read.
